Confident Human: Kelsey Salvatico

Meet Kelsey, she is a Board Certified Cosmetology Nurse Practitioner and skin expert. Her understanding of the microbiome and the gut-skin connection aligns with our mission at the The Confidence Co.

We spent an hour chatting with Kelsey, learning more about herhow she has been keeping herself busy during quarantine, the person who inspires her the most, and how she has sharpened her sandwich making skills. Her playful and competitive spirit makes you want to grab a glass of wine with her. Luckily we will be doing that tonight at 6pm PST on our Instagam LIVE. Get to know Kelsey...

I AM kelsey salvatico AND I DEFINE CONFIDENCE AS knowing your worth and not settling for less.

WHERE DID YOU GROW UP AND WHERE DO YOU LIVE NOW?

I grew up in Southern California and now live in New York City.

HOW DO YOU DESCRIBE WHAT YOU DO?

I am a cosmetic dermatology nurse practitioner who specializes in natural results and an untouched look. My job is to enhance the beauty within you, not mold you into something or someone else.

WHY THE CONFIDENCE CO MISSION RESONATE WITH YOU?

The Confidence Co mission resonates with me most because I truly believe that a healthy gut can improve or even completely eliminate so many skin concerns. In my practice, I like to fix the problem, instead of treating the symptoms in perpetuity. If you’re looking to make an investment in yourself or practice self care, start with your gut first!

WHY IS HAVING A HEALTHY GUT IMPORTANT TO YOU?

I believe you are nothing without your gut health. Your gut microbiome impacts your mood, your energy, your health and happiness. I find myself speaking to my patients constantly about their gut health in relation to acne and other skin conditions, but it really affects so much more than just that.

NAME YOUR FAVORITE RESTAURANT.

Mary’s Fish Camp in NYC.

NAME THREE OF YOUR FAVORITE FOODS.

Spaghetti limone, lemon blueberry pancakes, and a bean & cheese burrito.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE RECIPE?

The absolute best sandwich: toasted sourdough, mayo & dijon mustard, sweet & spicy jalapeños (LOTS), turkey, ham, at least four slices of salami, provolone cheese, sprouts, and a super crunchy piece of romaine lettuce (let it soak in an ice bath for 5+ minutes to maximize freshness and crunch). oh, and slice it in half a little off center to remind your husband that sh*ts homemade and he’s lucky to have you.

ANY MAJOR WELLNESS MOMENTS IN YOUR LIFE?

I’m naturally very competitive. sports, trivia, the treadmill next to me at Barry’s... after a hip flexor injury, I finally found my way to pilates and everything just clicked. you don’t need to pour sweat to get a “good workout.” It was the first time I felt like my body was on my side, instead of an obstacle keeping me from my fitness goals.

WHAT'S YOUR CURRENT SELF-CARE ROUTINE?

Get up early, when the day feels peaceful and full of possibilities, and write down three attainable goals to complete that day.

WHERE DO YOU GET OR DRAW INSPIRATION FROM?

I would never tell him (but here I am writing it, so he may see this...lol), but I really do draw a lot of my inspiration from my husband. His work ethic and drive are palpable. His mind is always going, he’s always learning and growing and improving and it keeps me on top of my sh*t.

WHAT WOULD YOU TELL YOUR 18-YEAR OLD SELF?

The world will conspire to help you when you’re on the right path, if everything’s going wrong no matter how hard you’re trying... it might be time to re-evaluate your plan and change directions. Change doesn’t mean failure.

HOW HAVE YOU KEPT UP YOUR CREATIVITY DURING THIS TIME?

I struggled with this a lot at the start of quarantine because I feel that to be a truly great injector you must be an artist. So my normal life requires and rewards my artistic ability. In lieu of this, I’ve found cooking, which is an activity I’ve felt intimidated by and a skill that has eluded me my entire life. Planning meals, categorizing grocery lists, opening a fridge full of possibilities... these are things I never thought would bring me joy, but I actually LOVE them.

HAVE YOU FOUND CREATING ART TO BE HELPFUL WITH EVERYTHING GOING ON? IF SO, HOW?

Yes, absolutely. While I would hardly consider my cooking art lol, the act of cooking feels like creating and gives me something tangible to be proud of. and I also love having a set end time to my “work day,” when i can crack open a bottle of wine, out on some music, and start making dinner.

WHAT ARE IS ONE SELF-CARE RITUAL YOU'RE LEANING INTO FOR COMFORT?

Reading for pleasure.

DO YOU HAVE A QUOTE, POEM OR SONG THAT YOU WOULD DEFINE AS YOUR ANTHEM?

“She wasn’t looking for a knight, she was looking for a sword.” —Atticus
