How to Practice Gratitude This 2021 Holiday Season

Each year, we at The Confidence Co, we look forward to all of the deliciousness that Thanksgiving brings: a whole holiday that is centered around spending time with loved ones and eating - that's our kind of holiday! We're excited to come together and eat all of our favorite seasonal dishes (with our Confidence of course).

But the season of Thanksgiving also offers us a little something extra, behind all of the tasty foods. That offer is the opportunity to practice gratitude. Practicing gratitude, the intentional act of being thankful for what you have in your life, comes from the practice of mindfulness. And studies show that having a regular mindfulness practice, whether that's through breath-work, meditation, or yoga, can help reduce stress and anxiety.

In positive psychology research by Harvard Medical School, "gratitude is strongly and consistently associated with greater happiness. Gratitude helps people feel more positive emotions, relish good experiences, improve their health, deal with adversity, and build strong relationships."

So this holiday season we encourage to practice gratitude this Thanksgiving. Here are a few ways you can spread your gratefulness.

⚡Offer to help out a neighbor

Do you have a neighbor that is going out of town for the holidays? Offer to pick up their mail, water their plants, or walk their dog while they are away. Give them some peace of mind while they are away.

⚡Set an intention before each holiday gathering, party, or dinner.

The holidays can be exciting, overwhelming, and exhausting all at the same time. To show your appreciation for your nearest and dearest, try setting a simple intention. Your intention can be a single word or mantra like "playfulness" or "joy." An intention can help you remain mindful and in the present moment.

⚡Reflect on the past year

Take a few minutes to reflect on 2021 and consider the different goals you accomplished, the trips you took, the new friends you made, the professional achievements, etc. Think about all of the positive things that have happened for you over the last year. Then right those down in a journal.

⚡Volunteer

Find a local charity or organization that is aligned with your values and beliefs. See if you can volunteer with their organization. And if time is an issue for you, perhaps you can donate.

⚡Get out into nature

The earth gives and provides so much to us humans. Show your appreciation for the earth by spending some time admiring it. Notice the little things like the texture of leaves, the aroma of trees in a forest, the feeling of a cool breeze. There is so much beauty that surrounds us, you just have to take a the time to notice.

⚡Tell someone how much you love them

Pick up the phone or visit a friend and let them know how much you love and appreciate them. Let then know just how special they are and the fact that you're grateful for having them in your life.

⚡Share your talents

Are you a great cook? Do you have a beautiful singing voice? Maybe you're an excellent driver? We all have talents - big and small. Share your talents with your friends and family. Help out where you can.
